Team members from the new store and community volunteers will build the learning garden at a Big Dig on April 10. Since 2015, support from the Foundation has enabled REAL School Gardens to build 13 learning gardens, expand to three new regions and develop a multi-subject curriculum that engages students at more than 100 schools in STEM education principals using food and nutrition topics. Additional details about the Big Dig will be announced at a later date.

As part of Sprouts’ commitment to “zero waste,” the new Charlotte Sprouts will donate unsold and edible groceries to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina through the grocer’s Food Rescue program. In 2017, Sprouts stores and distribution centers donated 23 million pounds of product, equivalent to 19 million meals. Food that is not fit for donation is provided to local cattle farms and composting facilities. Sprouts’ evolving “zero waste” initiatives help minimize food waste while reducing the impact of hunger and the company’s environmental footprint.
