JBS’ story begins in 1953, in Brazil. Founder, José Batista Sobrinho, began the business as a small butcher shop, and through discipline and determination, he grew the company to become the world’s leading provider of leather, meat protein, and sustainable co-products.

JBS’ mission is unwavering: to be the best in all that we do, providing superior products and services to our customers and the opportunity of a better future for all of our team members.

This mission holds true in regard to the company’s sustainability efforts. By the end of 2020, JBS aims to reduce their greenhouse gas emission by 20%, reduce their electricity consumption by 12%, reduce their natural gas use consumption by 20%, reduce their water use by 10%, and achieve a 90% or better on their JBS USA Animal Health and Welfare Scorecard. Through the implementation of these goals, JBS aims to provide a brighter future for their team members, shareholders, supplies, customers, and the next generation.
