Grimmway Farms has issued a Class I Recall for organic whole and baby carrots under the “Sprouts” and “Cal-Organic Farms” brands due to potential E. coli contamination. The affected products are no longer in stores as best by dates are from early November, but they may still be in consumers’ homes. Please discard immediately or return them for a full refund and consult a healthcare provider if concerned about illness.

E. coli is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with a weakened immune system. Some infections can cause severe bloody diarrhea conditions, such as a hemolytic uremic syndrome, or the development of high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and neurologic problems. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and/or vomiting.
