Building Store & Community Connections
“At Sprouts, caring for our community is one of our core values, and with the Sprouting Healthy Communities Day we saw that value in action,” said Dustin Hamilton, chief stores officer of Sprouts Farmers Market. “This in-store event created a powerful moment of connection across the country as our team members came together with local partners to support children, families, and healthier communities.”

The $5,000 to $10,000 grants are designed to strengthen programs that provide children and families with greater access to nutrition education, school gardens, cooking classes, and wellness opportunities. Collectively, these programs are expected to reach an estimated one million children and adults this year.

“Being a part of the community is in our DNA at Sprouts,” said Lucas Larson, Florida regional vice president of Sprouts Farmers Market. “From Florida to California, our stores are committed to partnering with local schools and organizations so that our neighbors feel our support. The Sprouting Healthy Communities Day is a celebration of those partnerships and a reminder that we’re here for the families we serve each and every day.”

Engaging Our Customers in Good
The grants are funded, in part, by Sprouts customers who choose to round up their total at the register when they are asked if they’d like to support children’s nutrition education programs.

“Our customers are right by our side helping to make these programs possible, and some of them even nominated the nonprofits that we supported in these grants,” said Lyndsey Waugh, executive director of the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation.
The application window for Sprouting Healthy Communities Day grant funding opened in May. Grants were made available in three categories.

Sprouting School Gardens: More than 145 schools received grants to for garden-based nutrition education and wellness programs totaling $1 million

Growing Healthy Kids: In total, 275 nonprofit organizations received grants to support children’s health and nutrition access programs
